Revit how to remove everything

what's up guys and welcome back to another Revit tools video in this Revit tools video we'll be covering the delete tool seems pretty simple I think you all know how to delete something in Revit but there actually is a tool for the longest time I just didn't realize that there was a delete tool in Revit but in fact there is it's that red X I don't know about you but I generally don't use it and it's something that it doesn't really cross my mind as something I would even need because typically what I would do is highlight and press the delete button to delete whatever it is I've highlighted it just that just makes sense I'm not gonna go and bother using a tool but the delete tool itself does something kind of specific and I'll press the delete tool and we could see up here there's an option that is not turned on by default but there's an option to check editable only whether it's and this has to do with the leading of course so I'm for the purposes of this video I have made two different options of floor plans it's there there's nothing to do with them because all we're going to do is delete them but when it comes to editable there's such thing as editable and non editable and this apply is to work set so I'm gonna go to modify collaborate and this becomes a factor when you're working in a collaborative or central model so I'll click on work sets and again for the purposes of this video I have option one and option two as different work sets I would not typically do that because if I truly had a different option like multiple options of a floor plan or a room or whatever it might be I'm gonna make a design option now I will save design options for probably their own multiple set of videos because they can be quite complicated but again don't get hung up on the names or anything just just remember that these are work sets and I'll explain how all of this ties in the work sets in just a second but because work sets exist and the way they work has to do with editable and not editable so getting back to the delete tool finally the delete tool applies editable versus not editable unlike the delete button so editable in this case of the delete tool or Revit work sets in general is that you have possession and that no one else can edit them so that's if something is editable non editable applies when no one has ownership of an item and anyone can edit them it seems kind of backwards and weird but if you just remember that editable means it's owned you're probably in good shape so right now I have option one and two they're both not editable and there are both no owners and borrowers so that's good to know so that that's fine we'll hit OK and I will just at this point I'll just select random elements and we can see that all of this floorplan is associated with work set one and I've got this work plan which is associated with option two now if I select random elements and either of them and I press a delete button not using the delete tool or anything like that I get random elements that are gone I will hit undo but now once you do that you can see I'm gonna go back to the work sets and that I am the borrower of both option one and two which means now they are there technically they've been touched they've been edited they've been borrowed but still the whole work set itself is not set to editable I'll hit OK and if you want to clear those values and for the sake of this video I will clear those values the values of borrowed versus owned whether you have something or not you can hit relinquish all mine which is relinquishing or removing ownership from elements that you have in the model so I'll hit really close all mine there's nothing to do it's not gonna tell you that anything has been done but a way you can tell that that's been successful is you can go to work set and see I am no longer the owner or borrower either of these work sets so that's great so what I'm gonna do at this point and I haven't even used the delete tool yet but I will right now and moving forward I will so where the delete tool comes in is if I were to take complete ownership of this option which is basically saying I'm gonna change this to editable and at this point I'm the only one who can work on anything associated or in that workset I will be the owner from there anyone who wants to access an element edit or do anything to any element in that work set because I'm the owner I'm going to receive an editing request again I'll have another video for collaboration in general but because if I were truly an owner no one else would have the ability to edit or do anything to any object so I'm gonna change option 1 to editable and you can see as soon as I do that I am the owner of that complete work set and that's great and that's great in particular because when we go to the delete tool if I if I do choose editable only now it's gonna tell me a you know swipe and select different elements that you want to delete and so if I come over here to option 2 because none of option 2 is editable I don't have the option to select or delete anything so that's good way of controlling specific elements so it's good to know that by default if I go back again one more time to the work sets option one is editable option two because it is set to not editable in the work sets you have to have ownership to be able to to delete it if you're using the delete tool with editable only checked so right now because option two is non editable and I have the editable only checked when it comes to delete I cannot select or delete any element in this entire work set now if I come over here to the next option option one which I have so ownership of n is editable I can again just like before using the regular delete options select this and then now pressing enter I will delete if I hit undo to get those back I'm gonna go back to the work set again to rehash this one more time option one is editable option two is not and if I go to the delete tool if I don't check the editable only I can select anything and it doesn't matter but a good way to this is Google way to check if an object is element there is editable I can simply select that and it's not editable over here I can't delete it I can't do anything I can when it comes to option one works that one in this case because it is editable now I will say that is the delete tool there's nothing else to it it does delete it does the same as the delete button but you actually do have the choice of choosing an editable only element which means it's something you have affected that is the delete tool I being honest with you I have never really used the editable only option because I will simply go to the collaborate tab go to work sets and see what is editable so that'll tell me what I can delete but even that to say I don't really bother using the delete tool itself I like I said in the beginning of the video I didn't know why it was there I didn't think it needed to be a tool or anything like that because it is simply the delete button on your keyboard and it works the same so I'm not saying did not use the delete tool itself but it does have a unique quality

hey there it's donnie from the cad geek and with the recent release of new autodesk software you might be wondering to yourself what's the quickest and easiest way to uninstall the autodesk software that's already on your machine well you're in luck because that's the precise thing we're going to take a look at during today's video of course before we jump into the video itself if you are interested in other autocad tips tricks industry insights and more be sure to subscribe and of course if today's video does provide value to you please be sure to give us a like alright so without any further ado uninstalling the autodesk software that's already installed on your machine now you're probably familiar if you've used windows for any period of time how we can certainly go into windows and uninstall a program and while that certainly works for autocad and all of the various autodesk products there is an easier way and it is the autodesk uninstall tool so what is this and where can i find it well you're going to find the autodesk uninstall tool under your start menu and if you scroll down here to where you see autodesk we can go ahead and expand that out now depending on the stuff installed on your machine the list that you see here will probably vary a little bit but somewhere in this list there is going to be an entry for the uninstall tool so that's what we want to go ahead and launch and what i really love about this tool is that it will list of course all of the autodesk products that you have installed on your machine and it's also going to help group them in some what i think is some pretty intelligent ways here as well so as an example i no longer need the 2017 version of the autodesk software on my machine so i'm going to go ahead and uninstall that and you'll notice here as we scroll through the list here we see things like here is the infrastructure design suite that was the way my 2017 software was installed and if i want to get rid of everything i can just go ahead and click that top check box right there and it will select all of the sub entities there as well additionally i don't really need autocad either so we'll go ahead and check on that of course we can also check that top box there as well of course you can go through the list here and see all of the various bits that you have installed on your machine from autodesk and select the pieces that you do not need any longer so in my case all i'm interested in is the 2017 software so we'll go ahead and with those selected click on uninstall and just like that the uninstall tool is going to kick off the uninstall routine for each of the products that i have selected so we'll go ahead and give this tool a moment to run that and come back once it is complete all right and so after giving the autodesk uninstall tool a few moments to run you can see here that it has uninstalled each of the products that i selected and the way i can know that autodesk or that the uninstall tool has uninstalled that product is with the check mark next to each name so here in this example you can see that the uninstall tool did successfully uninstall the bim360 glue add-in for autocad civil 3d 2017 raster design 2017 and autocad 2017 but there was an error in uninstalling map 3d 2017 so i would certainly need to troubleshoot that or try running the uninstall tool another time to see if it gets rid of it there but with that we have now uninstalled each of those selected applications installed on my machine and while it's not technically required i do believe that it is a best practice that after uninstalling the software that we do go and clean up some of the bits that autodesk leaves behind her that autocad will leave behind and there's a few places that you want to check for this now one of the first is going to be your program files so i am going to open up a browser here so i'm interested in c program files autodesk and i want to find anything pertaining to the software that i just uninstalled so here as an example you can see i have autocad 2017 i just uninstalled that so i don't need that any longer so i'll go ahead and hit delete on that to get rid of it likewise i don't have vehicle tracking 2017 any longer so we'll go ahead and uninstall or delete that as well and you can scroll through here to find any other 2017 references and go ahead and get rid of those from program files autodesk now in addition to that we also want to check out the program data directory as well so if i come down here i'll come to that directory here as well so here i have browsed to c program data autodesk once again and this is another directory that the program data might be a hidden directory so you might have to enter that in directly or change your file explorer settings to show that directory but nonetheless i want to go ahead and check this directory out for any 2017 directories that may be left behind so here is civil 3d 2017 i don't need that any longer either so go ahead and delete that to remove it from my machine so things are looking pretty good in that regard now there are a couple other places that we do want to check before we kind of consider my 2017 software in this case completely uninstalled the first of those is going to be my roaming app data so this is going to be c users your username appdata roaming and in this directory you're also going to find an autodesk directory here so we're going to go ahead and click into that and similarly look for any of the 2017 bits that might be left behind so here is autocad 2017 we'll go ahead and delete that again map 3d 2017 did not seem to uninstall successfully so we'll leave that in place for the time being but civil 3d 2017 did successfully uninstall so go ahead and pick that and hit delete here as well to get rid of those leftover bits now the final big location that you're going to want to check is the local app data as well so roaming appdata has sort of a cousin of sorts and it is local app data so again your rc users your windows username app data local and in this directory there is also an autodesk directory that you want to check out here as well and just like before i want to look for any of the applications that i uninstalled using the uninstall tool so here is autocad 2017. we'll go ahead and delete that and scrolling down here looks like civil 3d was removed for me okay there is map 3d again i want to troubleshoot that in a secondary bit here but otherwise things are looking pretty good here in terms of the bits that have been left behind but nonetheless that is a quick look at how we can easily uninstall several autodesk applications at once using the autodesk uninstall tool so the big benefit there of course is that it allows you to select multiple autodesk applications that you would like to remove from your machine and remove them in one fell swoop versus going into add or move programs inside of windows and uninstalling each of them individually of course you can do that flatter way as well going in and uninstalling each of them individually and of course whichever method you do choose to uninstall either using the autodesk uninstall t
