hey everybody gonna do a quick video i'm gonna add to the helpful hints video and show people one thing um because some people are thinking that their projects that they create when they go to do a screenshot their projects get deleted i want to show you what happens or what you can do if you see that okay so the first thing i would do if i were worried about mine being lost is i'm going to come to your you can do this two different ways i'm going to show you the way you're using sketchup for schools first so you're going to open up sketchup for schools and when it gets to the home screen where it has you it asks you for you i think it says start modeling i don't think it brings up recent uh uh files like mine does so once this opens just waiting for it to open i had a few students say this yesterday and we were able to find them here's what we did when you get to here you're going to click open and then you're going to look at your google drive if you've saved it like i mentioned for you to do it should be on your google drive you just gotta find it so you just gotta click through here and click through your files most of you from what i've seen so far only have two files to start off with when you're your two parent files and then you have to click through there and you just need to look through your file folder to find find them look through every single folder and more than likely if you did save them they're going to be in your google drive okay the other way to find them is when you go into here not even opening up sketchup open up google drive and sometimes you can click over here and it'll say recent and if i click recent anything that was added to my google drive recently will be in here look at all of the ones that i've clicked on throughout today so that's those are my two suggestions the other suggestion i might have is when you're going to save it so we're going to start for the person i'm working with today we're going to do the learning sketchup one and i'll do mr keenan but you can do this and we're gonna it will select it into the google drive if it actually does delete it here's what i suggest you do whoops let's go here sketchup files select when it saves just four an example okay there you go named it that and then i just got to collect select my google drive okay here sketchup files select you might want to go into your google drive and create a folder for sketchup files that's totally fine so if you're worried about it getting deleted do save as and then you will be able to save it to your computer actually not this one this is having you save it on your google drive again if you export it export it and then if you did stl that would work because that's stl is a part or png would work too um so you can save it as that and this is going to make it it will download to your computer and then you can show in folder and you can have it saved on your computer too okay then if i were to do that and close out of this home then do open from my computer you just gotta go to where that last one was which i think downloads you just gotta find out where it was click on it and you should be able to open it up i don't know why i can't find it right now but here's one that i did last year open let's see if it opens this is made in a different one but those are some things that you could do okay this was a project that we used to make uh for sixth graders but um this was a catapult there would be a crossbar in here and then we would have a way to a crossbar being here and then we'd have like a catapult over here and we would have rubber bands attached and make things go flying but um anyway that's how to find it that's how to look for your things in google drive that's how you can save it and re open it back up from your own computer there okay that's that have a good day
Thanks for your comment Nam Lama, have a nice day.

hello all myself pushpan welcomes you to the final part of getting started with sketchup section which is part 5. i hope you have all watched the previous 4 parts in which i give a detailed description on templates in sketchup sketchup interface how instructor can be helpful in speeding up the modeling work and a step-by-step description on basics of creating your first model in sketchup in this part i will show you different methods of saving and reopening your sketchup model and also how to backup your sketchup while working and restoring a damaged sketchup file to save your model follow these steps on the menu bar select file and select save or you can use the keyboard shortcut control plus s when you are saving the model first time the save as dialog box appears as shown here you can choose your desired folder where you want to save your file and also as the default name of the file is untitled you can change the name according to your requirement below file name there is another rollout which gives option to save out sketchup file in previous versions starting from sketchup version 3. and also important thing to note that if you sketch a file is saved in higher version let's say sketchup 2019 version then you can't open that file in lower versions so while saving you can change the version of the file to save so that it can be opened in lower versions but if you open a lower version file in higher version it will open there hit save button in the end if you want to save an already saved model just like this one with a new name again select file menu and choose save as option this time the rest of the process will be same as before click the save button sketchup model files end with the extension type dot skp after you save a model you can reopen it later and continue working on it simply select the file and press enter or double click on the file wherever you have saved it to open or if you want to open directly within sketchup in file menu select open or use the keyboard shortcut ctrl o in the open dialog find the file location and select the file and press enter or double click on the file or select the file and hit open button backing up a sketchup file or restoring an autosave file is very easy and useful sketchup creates a backup file the second time you successfully save your sketchup file and any subsequent saves let's open the sample1 file again and save it second time when we go back to the file location you can see the back file is created automatically this file is an exact copy of the previously saved version of the file the backup file uses the naming convention file name dot skb on windows and it's located in the same folder as the original file if the sketchup crashes while you are working on a model or the original file of your model is lost somehow then the recovered file or autosave file is not deleted by default sketchup automatically saves your files every 5 minutes while you are actively working you can control that as well just go to the windows menu and select preferences in the preferences dialog in the general section you will find a saving option in which you can check the box of create backup or auto save and even you can change the autosave time there are many other options as well which i will explain you in later videos there is another way to recover your sketchup file even if you are left with only the backup file which is dot skb if you try opening dot skb file directly in sketchup it won't open as it's not compatible with that you will get a windows dialog saying windows can't open this file so here's what we will do just make another copy of the backup file in same location or some other location in your computer now change the dot skb extension of the file to dot skp extension and press enter or click outside the text box while doing that another dialog will pop up asking you to confirm the name change just say yes to that now the backup file is converted into sketchup file you can also see a small sketchup icon showing on the file which indicates this file can be opened in sketchup okay so here is the end of section a which was all about how to start sketchup as a beginner i hope you all got a good idea about it i will recommend you to keep practicing and make yourself comfortable with the software in the next section i will show you how to create model in sketchup with precision and accuracy just like autocad and we will explore some more measurement tools in sketchup you
Thanks Dacia your participation is very much appreciated
