How to view variants in altium

engineers are often faced with the task of designing devices that are very similar but are different in a few respects where each variation can have different options or functions best practices dictate the design be one basic project in which all modifications are taken into account and only a certain set of components for a particular variant are installed on the board altium designer provides a centralized system for creating customizing and storing these design variations design variants are supported at all stages of the design in the schematic editor we can view the differences between the variants and also easily manage their components the pcb editor supports working with alternative components created in variants in addition for the desired variant we can get a 3d model and other output files project variants are also supported in draftsman documents where we can easily get the assembly view and bill of materials for any variant using output job files in conjunction with the choice of variant accelerates the process of getting files to production as well as any other documentation they desire in addition to quickly being able to output documentation there are additional benefits to using variants all device modifications are stored in one basic project eliminating the need to create redundant copies of projects in addition this approach allows you to easily propagate modifications to all your variants simultaneously and automatically so you don't have to

Thanks for your comment Kayleen Stefano, have a nice day.

in this video we will explore how we can use altium designer's adjustment feature to place scalable views of different pcb variants in the same adjustment drawing after placing the views we will make changes using options available in the draftsman properties panel it is also possible to set scalable views prior to placing as well as after placement the pcb variant for the different views can also be selected from the properties panel views using alternative component variants do not display text or designator information there are several ways of displaying not fitted components these are available in the document options variant display drop down list they can be displayed as a mesh pattern a crossout or even be hidden from view the different display options can be configured using the properties panel for example for the mesh pattern it is possible to change the style scale rotation mesh line thickness as well as the mesh colour for hatching and strikethrough it is possible to customize the text that will be displayed in the component as well as its font and color parameters views with different variants can also be placed in the same document when you change the option in the document properties the settings will be reset and when you change the options in the properties for a particular variant view these will be saved for that particular view in addition to the assembly view the differences in the board variants can also be displayed by placing isometric and board realistic views as well as in the biller materials for the isometric and realistic view and the bomb not fitted components will be hidden and if alternative components are used these will be shown and listed in the build materials table you
