Comment by Tess Mccarren

hi everyone welcome to bim guru in this video we'll see that how we can search a particular elements id and how we can uh search any element by its element id it means we'll discuss about both the things if i'll select any element how i can get the element id of that one in revit and if i have the element id of any particular element how i can search that element by the id so we'll discuss about both the points in this video so let's start right now right now i'm in a plan of hyc and i want to select i want to search the elementary id of this particular duct okay so for that one what we can do is we'll simply click on that particular duct we'll go and manage tab and manage tab right there and there are a couple of options and enquiry options we are having three options first one is ids are selection second one is select by id and third is for warning that is different thing but we'll discuss about these two commands right there okay so i have selected this element now if i will click on the first option that is ids off selection okay i'll simply click on that one now this is the id uh this is the id of this particular element so if else i'll copy this one as of now because uh the second thing is how we can search any element by s element id so how we can search that one simply we can go in inquiry tab right now click on the second option selective id right now i did not select anything on the screen okay now if i click on select by id and simply i'll paste that id right here and click on okay i'll show both the things will work right there right now i'll click on okay now it'll highlight the same duct that i selected okay so that is how we can you know we can find the element id of any particular element element for which we wanted to select uh the id and similarly we can go with the element id as well to find the element and the model so that's all about this video guys thanks for watching this one let's meet in my next video

hey guys so I want to select items by ID you would go about that by going into your manage tab and then you can come over here to the select by ID button and then you can put in the IDS that you have and then it should select whatever the elements that you have the element IDs that you do have and you saw here right so I have two a woman they're separated by comma you can just keep adding this list essentially so there's a variety of different ways to get element IDs you can be using dynamo and pulling out different elements or or maybe you're looking at your warnings list you can be looking at through imaginate clarity's database so or even in Navisworks you can go in there and select a certain element and well what's nice in those different applications are those different ways of pulling out the the information if it doesn't have like a switchback function you know for example if Navisworks system working in that way because it does have that function you can easily just grab those IDs and then paste them in here just make sure that their comma separated and then you should be able to go ahead and select those items so that's one reason those are kind of a variety of reasons why you would kind of go go this route if I press ok we can see what happens again but yeah you you'd want to go and you know copy the IDs from there put them in here and you can grab those elements you can also you know for whatever the reason is if you want to select your elements and then come back into manage you can also get the ID of those selections so those two items that we've grabbed and we've been looking at this whole time we can grab them and then we get those those IDs associated with those elements we then can copy this and maybe use it in different platforms you know if we were using imaginet clarity and we were getting out the entire database of Revit we may want to use these IDs to kind of filter to specific elements again with Navisworks you know we're in there and we're looking at different stuff it doesn't have that you know a connection with Revit it's a nwc we may you know we may just want to kind of search by specific elements and use the element ID as you know it's the search criteria and we can then you know grab the items in there so there's a variety of reasons why you would do that it's not a huge thing that you're not necessarily gonna be working in that way it's pretty tedious because each element within Revit has an element ID but there's definitely cases where you need those those element IDs for whatever it is so hopefully this helps you on how to use those two functions so select by ID which will run again we'll just you know paste them email with an ID let's reduce it down since I've already done it that way you just want to select one element and press okay we get that element again if we select this one element we can then go back to the manage tab and then ID of selection because I didn't say anything this is grayed out we've you know if you don't have any element selected so keep that in mind yeah so hopefully this helps you give you some ideas on why you would tend to use that show you kind of the one example with the warnings if we look into these warnings they have an ID associated with them as well so if somebody like exported out this list and sharing it with you you could go in there and start like highlighting specific elements based off of their ID and you may want to do that because essentially this is what this tool does we can show the elements going to look for it in that view I'm gonna press cancel so it doesn't open up a view but essentially doing the same thing so I want to be bad to have a list of IDs and you can search you know with them that way if you're looking at a Revit database it might be easier kind of searching any element by element basis whatever the case is so hopefully this helps you and I appreciate you guys watching thanks a lot

Thanks Rich your participation is very much appreciated
