everyone welcome to this Autodesk Revit tutorial on how to add an HVAC system to your residential or commercial structure let's go ahead and get started now there's a very good chance that you've created your structure in either an architectural template or a construction template and because an HVAC system is a mechanical system it is actually best created in a mechanical template so what we're first going to do is I would like you to go over to your structure or your building and we're going to copy it out of here and then we're going to place it inside of a mechanical template so to do this you need to head over to one of your elevations let's say I go to my north and you have to select everything including the levels and the reason we go from the elevations is because without these associations the rest of your building wouldn't load properly into the mechanical template they're still going to be a few ifs and acts or whatever but like for the most part it should be okay so select everything head over to the button here this is copied to clipboard click on that so it will copy it and then start a new file but switch over from the construction template over to the mechanical template and then press ok give it a second to load and once it's done that head over to your elevations it doesn't matter which one I'll head into north because that's where we're at and you'll notice that there might be some elevations already in place since we're bringing in our own go ahead and delete those and press ok and then right click or not right click then head over to modify and you're going to paste in your template so paste it in press ok and then what I usually do is try to match it up as closely as possible and then click once to actually paste it in the only thing that might have changed are the levels so there's a chance there will be a little bit offset that's not a big deal as you can simply select them and then adjust the numbers to match up to what they originally were okay so it's going to look something like that or for your building it might look slightly different but fix those up and then we want to head over to the floor plans however when we imported this unfortunately it didn't bring in two floor plans it's not a big deal we just need to add those in so head over to the tab that says view then head over to the one where it says plan views go to floor plan and this will give you the choice of selecting all the plans or all the floors that are missing so select them all press ok and it's going to generate the floor plans for you so now I can head over to my floor plan and then to my level one and hopefully it appears okay if by chance you try to work or modify the walls in this structure you might notice that you can't select yours and if you can't don't worry just make sure that you have this button over here pressed and if it's activated then you will actually be able to select the walls it's not a big deal if you don't plan on editing the walls in this template but if you do just make sure that's checked okay so HVAC system to begin head over to systems and we first need to add in say some air terminals so I'm going to go to air terminal and we have some different options we have a supply diffuser which you can see what it looks like this is what supplies air to a room so let's say I put one in this room and then maybe two in this room over here so those will supply air then we can also switch this by clicking on this top button and go into return diffuser these are what return air to the air handling unit which is a vital component of any HVAC system okay and you can kind of notice by the arrows but this one's in taking air this one's releasing it okay so we have those and lastly we need our mechanical system our HVAC so don't go to air terminal go to where it says mechanical equipment load family head over to the mechanical folder then MEP and air side components then air handling units for those of you unfamiliar with what a choose are they can heat air cool air or treat it or treat it filter it things like that so we need to select one for art for us to use and I'm just going to go with a vertical split system right here and I already had one load in my project I guess but if you do go ahead and find it select it and then go ahead and wherever your mechanical room is if you have one or elsewhere in your building just make sure that you put it in place and once you've placed that down look at the symbols on it you'll notice that the return is currently pointed at the wall which is a problem because we don't want our return duct to actually be going through the wall so if you just let go of it click on it again and press the space key it should just rotate 90 degrees each time you press that so now it's facing the correct direction we also need to offset the ducts because we actually didn't put it offset on them and they're currently set at 0 feet so you can actually just go ahead and select them all and then offset them all together and let's say our ceiling is 9 feet or so I'm going to adjust this to 9 feet and you can adjust yours based off of the requirements of your ceiling ok so we have everything in place we're going to start with our supply system and to create a supply system you simply need to select all the ducts and I'm holding down control while doing this as well as your air handling unit you'll notice an option up here pop-up that says create system click on that it's going to ask you to create a system press ok and then head over to the button up here that says generate layout click on that and you'll notice that it creates a pathway now there are different solutions for different types of pathways so you can actually look at these and go through them and see which one you like I usually stick with a network based pathway and you can also have multiple different solutions for those as well okay the green lines typically the main line a blue our branch lines and we also need to edit the settings just a little bit so head over to settings and you want to make sure that right now these are set at nine feet so that's actually going to be parallel with the Ducks but we probably want them to be a little higher so I'm going to adjust this to eleven then I'm going to go over to my branch lines same deal I'm going to adjust to still eleven and for the Flex duck type it's asking pretty much do you want flex duct it's usually a good idea to have it because it actually makes your system much more flexible and you can specify how much you want so this is the maximum flex duct length available to each unit but everything there looks good so I'm going to press ok and then I'm going to go ahead and press finish layout and if it was done correctly and we take a look at our 3d view you'll notice right away that that's looking really good now my walls are set to 20 feet hence why that's going through the wall but that system is looking really healthy okay so let's head back to level one and now we're going to do the returns so I'm going to select all three of the books oh yeah select all three of those as well as the air handlin

hey guys Vulcan orchid here and in today's tutorial we're going to be working in Revit MEP or to be more precise so I'm going to be showing you how to create a simple mechanical system using some system components in Revit now as architects we really don't know much about these mechanical system but it's always nice to know how to assemble them or to have an some general idea of how everything works so we can collaborate better with people whose actual profession is to work in Revit MEP or to use mechanical equipment and before we get started I would just like to ask you to like this tutorial it helps me out a lot and if you haven't already I suggest you subscribe because they make videos like this every day and if there are any Revit MEP specialists watching this tutorial leave a comment in the comment section below of what do you think have I done anything correctly or incorrectly in this tutorial so here I am in Revit and I'm going to be starting off with a mechanical template of course and this is just a metric template and first I'm going to set the units to meters for this one okay okay and I'm just going to be linking a Revit project that was done in Revit architecture this is how it usually works an architect does a project and that that project is just a link to the MEP specialists so I'm going to go here to insert link rabbit I'm going to go to desktop find desktop and here I'm just going to select this out a repair shop project that they have prepared for this and I'm just going to open it up and here it is and it's kind of dark or it's basically half down so if you can't really see these lines very good you can go here to the manage tab open up additional settings find EF tone under lay settings and we can change this to maybe 7075 perhaps and for the way it's let's do one and now we can kind of see everything a bit better and if I go into 3d this is basically what this project looks like so if I go here in level 1 and here you can see we have this HVAC which is basically for our heating ventilation and air conditioning and we also have a plumbing section over here so I'm just going to close this up because we don't need plumbing really and here I am in the floor plan number one Mac and Mac basically means mechanical so we have this area over here which is basically for working with cars here are some garage doors and here we have an offset and a bathroom over here so we're going to be creating a system on this and if I go here to ceiling plan because everything will be done in the ceiling here you can see we have the ceiling plan and the ceiling is already placed in Revit architecture and the height of the ceiling is 4 0.8 meters but we can track that in South elevation and here we can kind of adjust everything so level 1 is at level 1 that's ok but level 2 over here is not at level 2 so I am just going to be using the align tool al is the shortcut and I'm just going to align this and now we have our levels aligned and if I go here to wireframe you can see here we have our ceiling at 4.8 so to finish it off let's go now in ceiling plan and here you can see we have our ceiling we can see it now and let's start adding elements so first I'm going to go here to the systems tab and now for the first element I'm going to be using mechanical equipment or M II is the shortcut and now I can search for something and I'm going to be using this simple a V a V V a V sorry unit and I'm going to choose perhaps this one with a 200 millimeter Inlet and outlet and as you can see if we go and place it we can't really see anything that's because the offset is at zero and this doesn't really place it on the ceiling it kind of places it on the level on which is on so if this is level one we need to give it an offset and let's try an offset off five point two meters because it needs to be above the ceiling and now if I come in here you can see now we can actually see our piece of mechanical equipment so I'm going to place it over here in the center and once this is placed now we can start adding some air terminals so we have this so now I'm going to go here in air terminal or 80 is the shortcut and the thing is we can't really see this air terminal as well and this is doesn't work really like lights as you would probably think because we're placing it on ceiling because unlike lights that are only connected by wires that can change elevations pretty easily when you're working with this these duct systems you can't really change these ducts that easily so they kind of stay in place so you need to give it an offset and the offset will be the height of the ceiling which is four point eight meters and now we can see our system so I'm going to place one component over here and I'm just going to select it and these arrows we don't really need them so you go here and you turn off these errors in the properties panel now I'm just going to go copy or Co and select multiple so I'm just going to do these ducts and these are basically outlet ducts and I'm going to place one here as well so kind of place them like that okay so once we have these ducts in place and our mechanical system now we can or basically these are outlets or air terminals now we can start doing the ducting so I'm just going to select this and I'm going to find this in over here and we have this in over here this is the created duct and create the duct we have as well and as you can see these are crosses so these are outlets so they're crosses and inlets or basically where the air comes in are these or one sight lines so I'm just going to click over here and we're adding a duct and we can change that so I'm just going to change it to a rectangular one and let's change this dimension to I don't know something like 300 for this one so I'm just going to do one here make a simple turn and go all the way to this one now I'm going to select it and extend it to the other side and go all the way to this one over here now I'm going to select these three and kind of move them using arrow keys kind of closer to the to this wall and this one can stay like that maybe bring this in a bit now because this is 300 and our ducts are 300 as well so we can just kind of continue this all straight so go here into duct make sure you're in this rectangular duct and you kind of create a turn over here you create one over here but as you can notice I'm not going directly to this air terminal I'm just stopping along the way so I'm going to do the same thing over here and then perhaps here we don't you have to do that we can just extend this one okay so now we have to make a connection and as you can see if I try to make a connection like this I can't do it I can't really place the connection on this air terminal and that wouldn't work we need a flex or wouldn't work as well so delete elements we need to place a flex duct I think that would work better so just go here flex duct and you connect from here to here and you go here again flex duct from here to here flex duct or FD is the shortcut so maybe it's a shortcut and connect that as well and here as well and as you can see when everything is connected this is
