Autodesk Sketchbook Mobile

Autodesk have released a new version of Sketchbook Mobile - their popular painting and drawing application for use with the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod touch.

Sketchbook Mobile is based on the same paint engine as Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, and offers a full set of sketching tools in an intuitive, scaled-down version of that same interface so you can enjoy sketching on-the-go. It's great for capturing flashes of inspiration, and although the small screen can be a bit limiting, you can zoom in for more detailed drawing or to add colour, etc.

Content you create in SketchBook Mobile can be saved in the Photo Library or emailed directly as PNG or PSD format ready for use in Sketchbook Pro. It provides a great opportunity for collaboration and idea-sharing, with a wide range of designers, graphic artists, and students forming over 100,000 users worldwide.

The application and its free sister App Autodesk SketchBook Mobile Express have together just surpassed one million downloads on the App Store since being released on 17th September. In terms of sales, Sketchbook Mobile is among the top 100 grossing Apps in the U.S, and users worldwide award it an average of four(+) out of five stars.

New features for Sketchbook Mobile v1.1 include:

  • Patented gesture-based marking menus
  • E-mail PSD format (preserving layers)
  • Layer opacity, Layer delete
  • Double-tap exit from Brush & Layer editors
  • Import Landscape-oriented images
  • Brush preview on resize
  • Brush stippling
  • Large canvas and 6 layer support for 3GS and 3rd generation iPod touch (32 & 64 bit)

Sketchbook Mobile has hit the ground running, and it's more than likely that if you've heard of it, you've either got it or want it!

When you're ready to export your images to a more professional program in order to refine and develop your ideas, you'll want a copy of Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. With all the features of the Mobile version as well as many more advanced options, it's the ideal software for creating intricate, detailed sketches.
