Coming
just over a week after Apple brought out an update for FCP X, Avid
have also now announced the latest version of their NLE. Any 'dot'
release is always an essential download if you want to keep up with
the latest improvements and fixes, and Media Composer 6.0.1 is no
exception.
This is a big update for Avid - because it requires you to
uninstall the previous version completely, there's bound to be a
good amount of updates included. It's also free for any customers
who already own v6.0 on PC or Mac, as are other new Avid updates
Symphony 6.0.1 (for Mac and PC) and NewsCutter 10.0.1 (for PC). The
new Avid Media Composer v6.0.1 maintenance update is available now
on the Avid Download
Center.
What the users are asking...
If you haven't already upgraded, it's worth reading a few of the
FAQs the Avid forum has thrown up
before you install. Here, Avid moderator Larry Rubin explains
all...
- wookie25: "So if I'm installing this on a
system without a dongle do i have to deactivate the mc6 install
first?"
Larry Rubin: "Yes. If you're going to do a full
install, deactivate your software license, uninstall 6.0, install
6.0.1, reactivate software license. If not, run the 6.0.1 installer
and it will detect if 6.0 is still present and there will be
prompts to guide you through the process, which will include
uninstalling 6.0."
- George Angeludis: "Isn't the PC patch a full
installer also?"
Larry Rubin: "Yes, it is. Avid recommends that
you uninstall 6.0 first, but even if you don't, the installer for
6.0.1 will detect if 6.0 is present and will uninstall it, in which
case the system will prompt you."
- Tony Randel: "Is this version qualified for
[OS X] 10.7.3 or still .2?"
Larry Rubin: "Page 12 of the readme indicates
10.7.1 or 10.7.2. No mention of 10.7.3."
